Monday Morning Mad Men Blogging: Six Month Leave

Even though this ep doesn't focus on her, it's a Peggy ep (I won't spoil anything), which is always more interesting. When you're watching, contrast what happens to Peggy at the end of the ep, and what Joan experienced recently when she very adroitly aided the budding TV division at Cooper Sterling.
Plus, a sneak peek at next week's Mad Men episode, "The Inheritance"...
In a way, Mad Men is a terrific reminder about how bad, degrading, and how frakkingly limiting being female or black or anything other than white and male just a few historical breaths ago. I think the series isn't really so much about social commentary, and it seems to revel and indulge in unacceptable and unjust behavior, rather than remark or deride it, but there's no getting around how ugly it was for more than half the population. No human resources to complain to, little or no legal history to build a case against if you wanted to sue. Just grin and bear it when a man grabbed your ass in the elevator, and be compensated by men taking off their hats in your presence. Forget about equal pay (and we're still waiting on that) and accept instead a man holding the door for you. And do you think Freddy Rumson would have gotten anything near the same treatment if his name was Frederica?
Blast from the Past: Seeing Betsy defrost the refrigerator. Yes, they were a lot of upkeep, but those old iceboxes sure did look cool. And they were solidly built. If you've ever had one, you'd know it was closed, because when the thing slammed shut it was like the vault closing on Fort Knox. Btw, I did a blog post a while back on appliances that have a vintage look without all the vintage inconvenience, so if you want an old-style appliance, check it out.
And Peggy, for the love of god, please do something about your wardrobe.
And now, a sneak peek at next week's Mad Men episode, "The Inheritance"...
