Description: The silhouette of the 1910s is a revival of the Directoire and Empire styles, but here it is blended with a turn-of-the-century monobosom. Once again, a new silhouette was founded in reference to past style. The revealing neckline conforms to an unsupported bust, creating a soft, languorous silhouette.
Condition: Good
Gray silk chiffon overlayer is intact and strong. Textile still has life and strength (but should be treated very gently, as it is very thin).
Off-white silk chiffon overlayers at the bodice and shoulders are intact and strong.
Pink silk net is basically strong, but has some major flaws. Two three-inch holes and three or four one-inch holes exist in the net and at various points overlap with the beading. These holes would need to be reinforced with conservator's nylon or something similar to stabilize the garment (the weight of the beading pulls on the net, and makes the gown unwearable in this condition). If these reinforcements were made, and the silk lining replaced, the gown would be wearable (standing and gentle, slow walking -- no dancing, please!).
Pink silk skirt underlayer is completely shattered and needs replacing. Replacement is possible, and would make the garment stable. Replacement would be necessary (along with thstabilization of the silk net) to make the gown wearable, as the silk skirt underlayer serves as a protective layer against movements of the body against the net. Without this silk underlayer restored, the gown is unwearable.
Pink silk bodice insert has begun to shatter, and has numerous, vertical slashes throughout. This silk insert is replaceable, but it would not be as easily restored as the silk underskirt layer, due to the gown's structure.
The gray beading is 95% intact, and is still securely affixed to the silk net and throughout other areas of the gown.
