Uncensored On The Road to Be Published
An unexpurgated version of the beat author Jack Kerouac's non-fiction book On the Road will be published in time for the culture-rattling book's 50th anniversary next year. Viking Press, which published the original edition in 1957, will produce the uncensored version in scroll-form, which would mirror the format in which Kerouac submitted the manuscript to the publisher. Fueled by drugs, coffee and an adventurous spirit, Kerouac embarked on a stream-of-consciousness jag about wandering across America. He typed his thoughts on paper, and stiched them all end-to-end with tape. The original scroll ultimately would be about 120 feet long.
