Paris Museum Sports Lanvin’s Boudoir

Odd, historic, and provocative interiors like couture designer Jeanne Lanvin's purple boudior will be showcased in the newly renovated Decorative Arts Museum in Paris. Three other rooms were removed from Lanvin's mansion before it was razed in the 1960s. The bathroom and legendary purple bedroom were saved and are on display at the museum. These interiors were designed by Armand-Albert Rateau.

Another vingnette displays the interior of a 17th-century courtesan's chambers, complete with a massive canopy bed caparisoned in green velvet that once belonged to Valtesse de la Bigne, the real-life inspiration for novelist Emile Zola's fictional prostitute in Nana. Napoleon's golden throne will also be on view.

In addition to objects and rooms associated with specific, famous persons, the museum also boasts 10 period rooms that shelter period furniture, art, textiles, and smaller objects.
