Doyle Ends Multi-Seller Vintage Auctions

Doyle New York, well-known within the vintage community as a venue in which to sell especially rare and high-end designer and couture pieces, will no longer be holding their twice-a-year couture auctions. In years past, Doyle would accept single pieces from consignors. Then, more recently, the official line was "at least four pieces" (although exceptions were occasionally made for truly great pieces).

Now the auction house, which helped to pioneer high-end vintage auctions, is closing this chapter. From now on, Doyle New York will no longer be a venue for vintage resellers hoping to "sell up." Doyle's will only accept single-owner collections, from collectors and celebrities. A spokesman for Doyle's today could give no word on when the next celebrity/single-owner auction would be held.

Doyle was a heavily used consignment venue for many high-end vintage sellers and buyers. It is unclear at this point how this will effect the market, collecting, and sales.
