Costume Designers Guild Gives Awards

Saturday night, February 17, the Costume Designers Guild awarded honors to its top picks. The spirit of Helen Mirren seemed to hold sway over many of the top honors.
In the ninth annual awards ceremony, purple-blooded flicks The Queen and Elizabeth (HBO) were especially honored, perhaps making leading actor Helen Mirren something of a lucky charm.
The award for Excellence in Period Film went to Chung Man Yee for his designs in the Curse of the Golden Flower and the award for Excellence in Fantasy Film went to Lala Huete for Pan's Labyrinth.
The Queen's costumer, Consolata Boyle, won the award for Excellence in Contemporary Film, while Mike O'Neill, who costumed an Elizabeth of another era, won for Outstanding Contemporary Television Series.
A Lacoste Career Achievement Award for Film went to Patricia Norris, honoring a resume which includes Victor/Victoria as well as The Elephant Man, as well as the upcoming The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
