Chanel Unveils Vintage Fragrances

The House of Chanel has unlocked its private, historical archive to again offer to the public four fragrances that have not been available for decades.

The four scents all hail from the 1920s. chanel No. 22 (1928, described by the firm itself as " tender, delicate, beguilingly romantic" and "the heady bouquet of white flowers (jasmine, tuberose, ylang-ylang and rose)...moving through vanilla to incense, spiked with a touch of vetiver") is considered by the company to be a "white flower" fragrance, as it debuted as Chanel moved into her white phase, which heralded the sleeker, more spare styles of the 1930s. No. 22 will be accompanied by Cuir de Russe (dense, leathery notes), Boise des Iles (spicy notes), and Gardenia (floral notes).

With the re-release of these vintage fragrances, the company will also release six new scents. Together, the collection is called Les Exclusifs and will be available exclusively in Chanel boutiques and at Bergdorf Goodman. At the moment, No. 22 is also available at Chanel.com (3.4 ounces for $84).
