A Weekend of Coaching in Newport
August 17 - 20, 2006
The Elms
367 Bellvue Avenue
Newport, Rhode Island 02840
Every three years the carriages of Newport's Gilded Age roll out and smart-looking horses pull them down Bellvue Avenue. See polished harness glinting in the August sun, richly caparisoned footmen guiding matched teams of equines. And see it all in a glimpse of what was, a century ago, the summer colony of America's wealthiest families. At 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, there will be a free coaching demonstration at The Elms. For more information regarding other weekend events and the parade route, contact the Newport Preservation Society.
